Am using a negative ion air purifier. How do I know if the ion thing is working? See no dust on the walls?

The device is filtering air, but I had read that negative ions generally lead to a lot of dust accumulation on furniture, walls, etc. I dont see any evidence of dust accumulation. Am staying in a very polluted environment and just wanted to ensure the thing is working.

Actually the dust is trapped on the “plates” (I can’t remember the exact name) inside the unit. No dust should be around it unless it’s NOT working.
